Using Intranet Surveys For Improved Communications

John Follett

Companies that use multiple computers typically have an intranet (an internal network) for improving communication between employees, providing product or service updates, and for training purposes. Providing employees with easy access to certain company resources and need-to-know information is an effective way of improving products or services and improving productivity levels. An intranet provides companies with an organized method for sharing files, images, and inter-department communications. Unfortunately, in many cases, companies do not properly optimize their intranet.

Intranet Surveys

Using Surveys to Optimize Your Intranet

One of the best methods or techniques that a company can employ in order to optimize their intranet is to develop an intranet survey to request comments and feedback from employees and to use that input to improve company operations. Unfortunately, many companies today have overlooked the importance of intranet optimization and do not offer their employees the ability to leave feedback or make comments and suggestions for improvements within the company.

Types of Intranet Survey Questions

Your intranet survey should ask questions that can usually be answered with either a simple YES or NO, or through the use of a ranking scale wherein the employee can grade certain aspects of company operations. For instance, if the question is “How often do you use the company intranet to get information or resources that you need?” then the choice of answers should be “daily, weekly, monthly, rarely, or never.” You can also use a 1 to 10 scale to rate the ease or difficulty using a company resource or finding critical information. You can also use a rating scale to find out how easy or difficult it is for employees to use your intranet.

Why You Need to do Where Your Intranet Survey is Concerned

Optimizing your company’s intranet should be the primary focus of using surveys. By providing employees with the information or resources that they need you can achieve certain company goals such as increased productivity. On a closing note, be sure that you allow employee anonymity with your intranet survey and encourage your employees to be as candid as possible with the details they provide as well as their feedback.
