Understanding Your Customers Through Customer Information Profiles

John Follett

An area companies should be focused on is  target customer demographic. While many companies want everyone to buy their products or services, there is usually a specific group that the company targets when it comes to marketing and promoting products and services.

In order to do for a company to the best of their ability, a business should come up with a customer information profile. The way this is done is the company uses a template and inputs data that corresponds with their target customer's characteristics. The tool tells you who your target customer should be.

Customer Information Profile

Creating a customer information profile is helpful because it lets a business know which demographic is best suited for their products or services as well as which demographic will likely not find them as appealing. The information the company gets from the customer information profile will dictate what kind of commercials the company plans and what channels they buy air time for those commercials. It can also affect the time of day the company chooses to air these. During the day, you will see more commercials for cleaning and food products whereas in the evening you will see more car commercials.

Using this template can also help inform a product development team about what types of products they should focus on developing. You can also look at sales data along with it to come up with the products that need to remain on the shelves or developed and what needs to be discontinued. The customer information profile you create is fictional, but it provides very accurate results.
