How to setup a blog - introducing the blog checklist

Jesse Hopps

Recently, we’ve been hit with a lot of requests for information on blogging. If you haven’t already seen the presentation entitled, “How to Start a Business Blog”, I strongly recommend that you click the link start flipping through the slides.

Before I start a new project, I generally like to conduct a few hours of research. What am I looking for? In this case, I would probably try to identify 5-10 different blogs that are esthetically pleasing, have good content/contributors and that I enjoyed reading.  If you’re thinking about starting a B2B business blog, and want to get some good ideas, check out yesterday’s post, “The Best B2B Marketing Blogs.”

Which brings us to today’s post…

I’d like to talk a bit about visualization & mind mapping. After you’ve reviewed the presentation above and found some blogs that you like - it’s time to organize your thoughts. One of the best ways to do this is by creating a visual diagram of the steps you need to take in order to effectively implement your ideas. If this sounds like a huge mountain to climb don’t worry…we’ve come across a great map and would like to share it with you.

A few months ago, Lynette Chandler, created a blog setup checklist for a friend of hers. Use it to make sure you've covered all the bases when setting up a new blog. There are two different versions of this tool available for download, a mind map version if you are the visual type and a PDF linear version if mind maps aren’t your thing.
